Smart Concrete: The deep revolution to the field of conventional concrete materials

Modern concrete technology has led to the special types of concrete called smart concretes that have properties different from normal concrete. The webinar gives an outlook on two emerging types of smart concretes; the self-healing concrete (autonomous self-healing concrete) that has the ability to react upon an external stimulus, such as excessive stress, or environmental effects including temperature, pressure, and aggressive attack. It's methods of manufacturing, the approaches have been developed for endowing concrete with this self-repairing ability, including the technologies of embedded bacteria spores or healing agents, using Shape Memory Polymers (SMPs) and Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) are demonstrated. Conductive concrete is another theme of the webinar. It's properties and applications in building surface heating, pavements de-icing, electromagnetic shielding, as anodes in cathodic protection and prevention of infrastructural conductivity grounding difficulties are highlighted.
